Redcliff Quarter Helps Young Children Gain A New Perspective On Our Community

There’s nothing more exciting than a boat trip on a sunny day, and this week young children from the Redcliffe Nursery School and Children’s Centre have been treated to an adventure around Bristol Docks thanks to support from Redcliff Quarter.

The Redcliffe Nursery School and Children’s Centre, which is located close to the major regeneration project at Redcliff Quarter, organised the trips to give children the experience of boat life.

Claire Fletcher, teacher at the school says:

“For many of our children this has been their first experience of a water trip, and we’re really grateful to Redcliff Quarter for funding this fantastic adventure for the children.

“There’s such a different and interesting perspective of the city and community when you see it from a boat. Within Bristol the waterways are such a huge part of our history, culture and industry, and we’re keen to share this knowledge with our young children.

“Only a small minority of children have the opportunity to enjoy a boat experience, so we’re really thrilled that we’ve been able to make it happen this summer for all the children who will be moving onto school in September.”

Ron Persaud, director at Change Real Estate, says, “Redcliffe Nursery School runs a fantastic neighbourhood nursery set within a group of high rise flats, a short walk from where we are rejuvenating a derelict area of land for Redcliff Quarter.

“The school is located in one of Bristol’s most deprived inner-city areas, and many of the young children have never had the opportunity to explore Bristol’s Harbourside from the water. A trip around the docks is always full of fascination for children, and by helping this adventure happen for them, we hope it will enthuse them to learn more about the inspiring neighbourhood they live in.

“The waterways are such a huge part of Bristol’s heritage, and we’re really pleased to get to know the Centre and help them bring this opportunity to fruition.”

Redcliff Quarter’s support has enabled two groups of children from the Nursery to go on a boat trip, learning about the water, and gaining a better understanding of water safety. The pupils’ learning is continued back in the centre, with related projects.

Redcliff Quarter is being developed on 3.3 acres of land in the heart of Redcliffe which has lain derelict for around 20 years. The urban village will include new homes, cafes and restaurants, a new European style food hall, a hotel, as well as offices, and is being brought forward as a joint venture between Change Real Estate, Cannon Family Office and ICG Longbow.
