St Mary Redcliffe School Visit To Redcliff Quarter

Pupils from St Mary Redcliffe School have visited the major regeneration taking place at Redcliff Quarter, Bristol, as part of a Design Technology project they’re undertaking.

The group of Year 9 pupils were given a fascinating tour of construction by Mike Stone of Galliford Try – seeing the external works being undertaken, taking a look at progress of the show apartment, and getting a birds eye view of the whole site from the roof of one of the residential blocks.

From here they were able to see construction work taking place across the 0.8 acre area of phase one of Change Real Estate’s landmark development.

The pupils were given the opportunity to quiz design and construction experts at Galliford Try on the build, helping them formulate their own ideas for their DT project. The students have been tasked with coming up with their own design concepts for what their ideal development would be on the site. They will be presenting their ideas to Galliford Try at the end of term.

Redcliff Quarter is the £180million regeneration project underway in the city. Phase one comprises a mixed-use scheme of new homes and retail. Change Real Estate is constructing the new homes on behalf of FABRICA by A2 Dominion. The three residential blocks, comprising 128 new homes for private rent, are anticipated to be complete by the summer of 2018.

James Fothergill from Change Real Estate says, “Redcliff Quarter is in the heart of a close community and no doubt many of the pupils who are taking part in this design project pass by every day, and will take a keen interest in how the site changes over the next few years. It’s a great experience for them to see such a landmark project rise out of the ground and begin to transform this area.

“We hope that the opportunity of seeing this project at close hand, and talking to the team involved in its construction, will encourage them to consider a career in the development and construction industry.”

Falling within a conservation area, Redcliff Quarter sits between Redcliff Street, Three Queens Lane and St Thomas Street. It’s anticipated that construction of phase 2 will commence in 2018.

The £180 million, 600,000 sq ft development at Redcliff Quarter is being brought forward as a joint venture between Change Real Estate, Cannon Family Office and ICG Longbow.
